It has been over 5 years since Shag Salon opened. Time sure does fly! Especially for the owners, Michaelene and Jason, who opened up Shag’s doors just 3 months after having a baby boy (Jack). Michaelene reminisces that, “it was the most exhausting and exciting time of our lives.”

The Salon was definitely Jason’s idea. A man with a new family to support is elated that the business is doing well in such a difficult economy. The couple could not be happier with the response from their clients. They are happy that the clients get the concept.

The concept being that a haircut from an expert stylist in a trendy atmosphere should not be something that should cost as much as a car payment. A new concept that has been so needed in Royal Oak for sometime now. Michaelene and Jason, being long time Royal Oak residents, wanted to get their hair cut or colored at a trendy place, but did not like paying salon prices.

Just because it is inexpensive does not mean that you will miss out on a great experience. Customers walk in and hear fun music playing and are immediately greeted by a stylist. As soon as a person walks in they know they have walked into a relaxed and fun atmosphere. “Our stylists make the place” says Jason. “We are so lucky to have such great, professional people working for us. They are really like our family.”
